“Joseph Wechsberg... a man who truly belongs in the pantheon of great food writers.”
–Ruth Reichl, Editor in Chief of Gourmet magazine

Culinary Arts Chefs await the awards ceremonyMission Statement
The Joseph Wechsberg Culinary Arts Award, founded by Mr. David Pachman in 2007, honors the writer and journalist Joseph Wechsberg in the 100th Anniversary year of his birth. The educational financial aid award at Atlantic Cape Community College, supports by direct donor funding, the needs of qualified culinary students who are enrolled in the Travel and Learn European Program. Students can fulfill their cooperative educational credit on the trip. The award is currently a two-week externship in Alsace, France.

There is an additional tuition charge at ACCC for the Academy of Culinary Arts branch study abroad, which features culinary schooling, hands-on apprentice chef experiences and local vineyard/wine exploration each year.

By providing raised gift giving at ACCC for formal culinary education travel, the Joseph Wechsberg Culinary Arts Award also promotes a commitment to the culinary education goals of the Academy of Culinary Arts for all cuisine and pastrymaking would-be chefs who are taking credit for the two-year Associate’s Degree and Food Service Management programs.

Culinary Arts award chefs impatiently waiting for the awards announcementApprenticeships promise experience and the chance to have one’s talent singled out. After applying their classic French training at the Academy of Culinary Arts, ambitious and honored students can be the recipients of planned, independent, and designated travel cash gifts. This prize is to apprentice (stage) with talented chefs in Europe and America for a period of six months. This Joseph Wechsberg Culinary Arts Award recognition will be administered by a committee of food arts and wine professionals and educators.

Goals
The Joseph Wechsberg Culinary Arts Award program encourages, enables, and assists aspiring chefs at the Academy of Culinary Arts to seek out a very well rounded resume with learning from outstanding chef-educators and chef-mentors in the great cities of Europe and America.

The award funding for the Travel and Learn European Program is valid for every year a chef-educator escorted trip is offered in Europe.

With a sure cook’s touch and a sharp eye, acquired knowledge of food chemistry – food and wine judgment – and the experiences of working ideally in the real world with chefs with fresh ideas who may invert time-honored ideas, the Joseph Wechsberg Culinary Arts Award recipient may soon be recognized by Food & Wine magazine, and the James Beard Foundation Chef Awards, as one of America’s top new chefs.

All gift giving will be presented to ACCC, which is the sole steward of the Joseph Wechsberg Culinary Arts Award.
